Microsoft Azure cloud revenue keeps on growing

Microsoft’s quickly maturing Azure public cloud looks to be generating more revenue for the company — fortunately for cloud-obsessed chief executive Satya Nadella.

Azure growth was up more than 100 percent year over year, according to a statement that came out alongside Microsoft’s earnings release today.

“We are thrilled with the tremendous momentum of our cloud offerings with Office 365 and Azure both growing over 100 percent again," said Kevin Turner, the company’s chief operating officer.

Surely Nadella, who was head of cloud at Microsoft before assuming the corporation’s top position and continues to talk about the company becoming cloud-first and mobile-first, likes the ring of that quote. And that’s especially true as Microsoft contends with other fast-growing cloud infrastructure providers, including Google and Amazon.

Microsoft did not disclose dollar figures, though. Then again, Amazon Web Services still doesn’t, even after doing the cloud-computing thing for eight years.

Another thing that might please Nadella is that Azure’s growth rates might not have hit their peak. Last quarter, Microsoft said Azure growth was more than 150 percent.

Previously, Microsoft hadn’t called out Azure growth rates haven’t gotten earnings statements or press releases.
