Dronestagram, the first drone photography community, just announced the winners of its first photo contest, which was held in partnership with National Geographic.

The 2014 Dronestagram Photo Contest received entries from all over the world. While many of the photos were of high quality, the winners were selected primarily for fully embracing the potential drone photography offers.

Dronestagram and National Geographic provided the prizes for the “most amazing aerial views” category. The first prize went to user Capungaero who submitted a photo of a bird in flight. The prize included a Go Pro Black Edition Camera; $200 toward a canvas, aluminum, or plexiglas print; a drone DJI Phantom 2; and publication on the National Geographic website and the French edition of the magazine.

Awards were also given out to users who submitted the photos that received the most likes from the community. The contest has additional sponsors, including Go Pro, Picanova, Droneshop, and Parrot.

Dronestagram launched almost a year ago and was designed to give drone users an Instagram-like platform on which share the unique aerial photos that can only be captured using drones. Users are encouraged to share, like, and comment on photos. At the time of launch, Eric Dupin, founder and CEO of Dronestagram, gave users a simple directive: "Share your best aerial pictures and let's build a world map of our Earth with a bird's eye view." A year later, it looks the company is well on its way to accomplishing that.
