Facebook just saw its active user base in Indonesia rise to 69 million, according to a statement from Facebook’s Indonesia head, Anand Tilak.
Two quarters back, the company reported 65 million active monthly users in the country pointing to a 6-percent increase.
Indonesia is actually one of Facebook’s largest markets, despite the fact that Internet access isn’t always available and just 23-percent of the Southeast Asian country’s 240 million people have smartphones, according to Nielsen.
In its last SEC filing in March, Facebook reported 1.28 billion monthly active users worldwide, with India and Brazil representing the areas most contingent with growth. And mobile use is up as well, with the company’s mobile monthly active users up 34-percent to 1.01 billion since the March 2013 filing.
This news comes on the tail of a study conducted by Forrester Research that revealed teens are pretty into Facebook after all, with over three-quarters indicating they use Facebook at least once a month. Much of this is likely related to an increase in mobile use among teens and the populace as a whole.
Facebook was founded in 2004 and based in Menlo Park, CA. It went public in May 2012 and has since seen a steady increase in user base across the globe. Facebook reported record per-user revenue in every global territory where it has a presence late last year, totaling $2.02 billion. $278 million of that figure came from Asian countries.
